A lot of us are going to have a Smithfield ham at our holiday table. Instead of buying one just large enough for the meal, I like to get on much bigger than I need. Why? Because leftovers! There are so many ways that I love to use leftover ham from the holidays that it's become something everyone in our house looks forward to. I'll tell you all of the ways I use up every delicious morsel of that leftover ham and even give you my all-time favorite family recipe.

The most popular hams in the grocery store are the Smithfield Signature Spiral Sliced Hams. You may even have been buying them for years like I have. Just look for the pretty wrapper and the amazing-sounding flavors.

I always get the Brown Sugar Ham because it comes with that amazing glaze, but this holiday I saw some new flavors that will make your mouth water! Can you imagine a Salted Caramel, Bacon Brown Sugar, or Pecan Praline glaze on your smoked ham?

The best part about getting a Smithfield Signature Spiral Sliced Ham is that it's so easy to prepare. Just pop it in the oven at 275 degrees for about 10 – 12 minutes per pound, then brush on the glaze and you’re done. They're already sliced, so it's straight to the table as the centerpiece of an amazing meal.

ThisHam & Northern Bean Soup recipe is one of my favorites to make and one of my family's favorites to eat. My mother used to make this for us and I had friends that would invite themselves to dinner when they found out she was making it.

Not only is it easy to begin with, but I've adapted it for the slow cooker. Just toss in the ingredients and turn the crockpot on and you end up with a delicious bean soup. Serve with biscuits or cornbread for a warm and filling meal.

If you're not familiar with Northern beans, they're a creamy white bean that pairs well with salty ham. My mother's recipe calls for celery seed. Just a word of advice: don't be tempted to skip it. It gives a deeper flavor to this soup that you will love!

  2. The next morning, drain and rinse your beans and slow cooker insert in cold water and place the beans back into the insert.
  3. Add the ham, onion powder, celery seed, and water to the beans. Cover and cook on High for 4 hours or on Low for 8 hours until the beans are tender and the soup has thickened.
