A psychological thriller that matches the TV show "Black Mirror" in the exploration of dark and disturbing themes

I am 19 years old and I had to take deep breaths to not fall into an existential breakdown after watching this film. Netflix-watchers, beware! don't be fooled by the "PG" rating of this movie. I don't know what anyone was thinking when they gave this movie a PG rating - this film explores one of the darkest philosophical questions that a child can experience. Here are some things that I find will help you make the decision of whether or not this movie is for you - this movie contains: Implications of cannibalism Allusion to Nazism and the “purification of the gene pool” - directly involved with the story The “f” bomb dropped loud and clearExplicit gore as a bullet is removed from an awake human being with a drillThematic elements that could harm the growing minds of young children with existential questions that they’re not ready for - some serious psychological dilemmas presented Shooting and wound-inflicting scenesThese are the reasons why I think Netflix made a mistake by giving this film a “PG” rating. And if that wasn’t enough, this movie mentions babies being torched. If we were to judge this film by its violence, sure, a PG rating would be (sort of) tolerable. But if we were to judge this film by its thematic elements, this movie would get an "M" for sure (of course, this is in my own opinion - I don't know how other people would think of this)

Nicely Done

“I Am Mother” is a clever, well-paced (slightly derivative) science-fiction thriller. Though the influence of Ridley Scott, James Cameron and even a touch of Kubrick is clear, the film still satisfies with some nice plot twists. It also asks some interesting questions about the idea of the “greater good.”There are a few intense moments of violence and a bit of swearing, but nothing is gratuitous. It all adds to the building tension as the audience tries to figure out who or what is really at work.Solid performances and a script in the style of The Twilight Zone are supported by some impressive visuals, and an understated ambient score reminiscent of Vangelis. An excellent break from never-ending superhero blockbusters, this film is a great choice for a mature 14 or 15 year old (or their parents) if they like a little substance with a good jump-scare.

Unoriginal, Predictable Sci-Fi Movie

The idea of faux friendly technology in reality being out to get the one they’re “protecting” has been around for millennia. It’s unexciting and very predictable. It’s not very violent, aside from a bleeding woman and bones being found in ash implying burnt offspring of the robot and other implied deaths. It’s not really worth a watch, but if you’re in the mood for a movie with only three basic characters with not much of any climax, sure have fun.

Good movie, not for young kids, bleak and intense but well done and enjoyable.

Cool intense movie, possibly for late teens. no nudity or sexual situations (appreciated) one graphic operating scene easily fast-forward-able if you're squeamish and not necessary to see for story progression. recommended for adults to see if you like this type of sci-fi film (Blade Runner/Terminator,etc) Some missed opportunities to make some great statements about morality and the values of life but still good.

An exhilarating existential flick

Chilling even for me, a 19 year old. A great psychological sci fi film, with looming threat, dizzying twists, and an excellent premise. Not really appropriate for kids, but older teens may enjoy it. Younger teens are more of a grey area. They might find the moral crisis and disturbing implications upsetting, so use discretion. MINOR SPOILER: There is also a scene where a person is awake during a fairly grisly bullet-removal procedure. Violence-sensitive teens might want to look away.
