Jazz vs Clippers – NBA Game Recap – November 6, 2022

LOS ANGELES — — Jordan Clarkson scored 23 points, reserve Collin Sexton added 22, and the Utah Jazz beat the Los Angeles Clippers 110-102 on Sunday night.

The Jazz rallied after losing a 10-point lead in the first half and trailing in the third and fourth quarters.

“Finding ways to win is fun,” Utah rookie coach Will Hardy said. “I’m very proud of the team that overcame 20 turnovers.”

The Jazz are second in the Western Conference with an 8-3 record. They earned a rare sweep in Los Angeles, after beating the Lakers 130-116 on Friday.

Paul George scored 34 points, the third time in four games he topped 30, but Los Angeles saw its three-game winning streak shattered. Marcus Morris added 18 points for the Clippers. Kawhi Leonard missed his eighth game with a stiff knee.

“We have to stick together,” said Nicolas Batum. “We’ll be fine.”

The Clippers missed all of their 11 3-point attempts in the fourth. George missed several shots in the stretch as the Jazz pulled away after erasing a four-point deficit.

“Lauri (Markkanen) did a really good job of making Paul George work hard and not just take shots but get the ball back,” Hardy said. “All 11 (3 points) were not perfectly guarded. There are just a few that have been missed.

The Jazz scored nine in a row, capped off by Malik Beasley’s 3-pointer to take the lead with 5 1/2 minutes left. It was part of a 14-2 streak that extended Utah’s lead to 106-98. Sexton had seven points in the push.

“I’m starting to get more comfortable with myself,” Sexton said. “You just have to stay ready and be present throughout the game.”

The Clippers shot within four on a dunk and an inside field goal by Ivica Zubac before Sexton dived with 54 seconds left.

“We fought the whole game and we didn’t give up when Paul George had a tough shot,” Sexton said.

Sexton fed Markkanen for an inside field goal in the closing seconds. Playing his first season at Utah, Markkanen finished with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Clarkson’s 3-pointer early in the fourth tied it at 87-all.

The Clippers scored the first seven points of third to find themselves in a 63-point tie. They closed in half five times before John Wall’s steal and field goal forced an 81-all tie.

Wall followed with a dunk that put the Clippers ahead for the first time since the first quarter.

The Jazz took an 84-83 lead on Clarkson’s 3-pointer before Wall scored again, sending the Clippers into the fourth one-point lead.

George’s 3 drew the Clippers to within one before the Jazz finished on a 13-7 run to enter halftime leading 63-56. Markkanen scored 11 of Utah’s points on the push when he made all five of his free throw attempts.
