Patrick Beverley will miss a second consecutive game against Jazz with illness

So far, Patrick Beverley hasn’t quite been the player the Los Angeles Lakers were hoping for when they traded him this summer.

Beverley has been a vocal leader and a good teammate as usual, but her play on the pitch leaves a lot to be desired. The veteran guard is shooting just 22.7% from beyond the arc and has seen his minutes dwindle with each passing game in favor of other options off the bench.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, a flu virus appears to be making the rounds in the locker room as several players have been sick. Beverley was forced to miss the loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers and isn’t feeling well enough to return for the second inning of their straight game against the Utah Jazz.

Kendrick Nunn drew in place of Beverley and he was a complete non-factor as he failed to score in his 18 minutes. Russell Westbrook’s time on the bench reinvigorated himself and the team in his minutes, but the Lakers are sorely lacking another shot-maker and playmaker whenever he or LeBron James is on the floor.

Thankfully, Beverley shouldn’t be short on extended time and, when available, remains a solid defensive presence. The Lakers have struggled to complete games in their first nine contests, but bringing Beverley back would help their backcourt depth.

Unfortunately, the Jazz are going to present a tough challenge as they showed in their opener when they got almost everything they wanted offensively against the Lakers. Los Angeles needs a win to regain positive momentum, but faces a steep climb, especially without Beverley.

Anthony Davis says back is improving and plans to play twice in a row

Anthony Davis struggled with a pre-season issue, but he looked stronger with each game. Davis backed it up, revealing he was feeling better every day and planned to play the Jazz after playing the first end of their back-to-back game.
