Choose Your Board

A charcuterie board is a must for any entertaining! It’s easy to put together and will look great on the table. Before you begin, choose your board. Here is a list of some board ideas to help you.

TIP: Use a board that is big enough to accommodate the type of party you are hosting.

Tray/Platter

Start with a nice wooden or marble tray/platter. It doesn’t have to be fancy but it should be large enough to hold all your meat and cheese. You can find some very pretty trays in stores or online.

Wooden Boards

Ideally, you’ll want to find a board made of wood because they tend to last longer and are more aesthetically pleasing than plastic or metal ones. Wood is also the sturdiest choice – it doesn’t get damaged as easily as plastic or bend like metal boards can. Also consider that wood won’t absorb odor or flavor like other materials can.

This particular one is my favorite for serving meat or cheese (and it’s also really affordable!) but it’s currently sold here so I found some similar ones that are around 19 inches in diameter.

Etched Ceramic Boards

These are my favorite types of boards because they are super easy to clean and very durable, plus they really make your charcuterie stand out with their beautiful design! I found several online in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Gather Your Ingredients

When you ask most people what they’d like on a charcuterie board, the answer is usually prosciutto and salami. But it doesn’t have to be. A charcuterie board doesn’t have to just be a selection of cured meats and cheeses. There are so many other kinds of things you can add to your charcuterie boards.

A balanced charcuterie board consists of various kinds of cheese, cured meats like salami and ham, olives, patés, sweet garnishes like apples and grapes, nuts like pistachios and almonds, a wide array of fruits and vegetables along with crudités such as radishes and carrots. It’s a combination of mostly savory items that can be used to serve as an appetizer or light meal.

No charcuterie board is the same. Cater to your guests and what they like. First, pick your favorite cured meats, cheeses and nuts. Then, add delicious accompaniments like crackers, dried fruits and savory spreads. Create new combinations each time that are designed to be shared!

This is what I used to make this Grinch Charcuterie board but feel free to come up with your own combination that your guests will enjoy as well.
